Here are the kinds of hardware and their functions:

  1. Processor
    The processor is also called the brain of the computer, the better the type of processor, the more expensive the computer, so the processor is also known as the core of the computer. The function of the processor itself is to process all activities carried out by the computer, which are requested by the user.
  2. motherboard / mainboard

is a circuit board where various electronic components are connected to each other such as on a PC or notebook and is commonly known as a mobo.

  1. Chipset

The components on this one motherboard mostly consist of two chips, the north bridge and the south bridge.
The main function of the chipset is to regulate the flow of data between components installed on the motherboard. Two chipsets that are usually on the motherboard itself have different tasks from one another.
The chip on the north bridge functions to regulate the flow of data to and from the processor, AGP bus, and system main memory. Meanwhile, the south bridge chip regulates the flow of data from input output devices, PCI buses, hard disk interfaces, and floppy, as well as other external devices. Since the north bridge chip is more vital in its work than the south bridge, it is not surprising that this chip is equipped with a heatsink, fan, or a combination of heatsink and fan by the manufacturer.

  1. AGP

Abbreviation for Accelerated Graphics Port. Also known as VGA card. Its function is to channel data from the graphics card to the CPU without having to go through the main memory, thus the graphics data processing process can be accelerated. Another advantage of AGP is its ability to execute texture maps directly from main memory.

  1. Memory Socket

The socket is the place to put the memory on the motherboard. Memory sockets have different shapes for different types of memory. Most motherboards have 3 or 4 slots, depending on the chipset used. For SDRAM memory, the must-have DIMM socket is a 168 pin socket, while for DDR type memory, the socket installed is an 184 pin socket.

  1. Processor Socket

A place to put the processor.

  1. CMOS

Abbreviation for Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor. From the shape it can be seen, it is a component in the form of an IC (integrated circuit) whose function is to accommodate BIOS settings and can still store settings in the bios.

8. Power Supply

Its function is to supply power to all components connected to the motherboard.

  1. Socket Power Supply
    Serves to connect the buttons / switches and indicators on the casing to the motherboard. This connector serves as a supplier of power from the power supply to the motherboard.
  2. USB Port
    To connect a device that supports USB to be detected on the computer.

  3. RAM (Random Access Memory)

is the main memory in a computer that is used for temporary storage media when the computer is on. RAM is often referred to as the computer’s main memory, the function of RAM is to support and serve the processor in the computing process. one of the main hardware that must exist for the completeness of a series of computer hardware.


is a storage medium that is designed to be used to store data in a large capacity. This is motivated by the existence of application programs that do not allow being on a diskette and also require file storage media such as an agency database.

  1. PCI slots

is an abbreviation of Peripheral Component Interconnect, which is a bus designed to handle several hardware devices. The PCI slot can be used for various purposes such as for installing a TV tuner, sound card, USB card etc.
